The International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) is a NZ$35 charge that most visitors to New Zealand pay, and it is collected at the same time as your NZeTA. It is shown on your NZeTA and remains in effect for as long as that authority is valid, so you do not pay it again for each separate visit during the two-year period.
The levy exists to help fund the conservation of New Zealand's natural environment and the tourism infrastructure that visitors use, ensuring the places people come to see are protected and maintained. Almost all NZeTA travellers pay it; the main exceptions are travellers who are only transiting and certain nationals such as Australians. Because it is bundled with the NZeTA, there is nothing separate to arrange — it is included when you pay for your NZeTA. You can see the full cost breakdown on our fees page.
