The NZeTA is suitable for short-term visits to New Zealand for a range of purposes. These include tourism and holidays, visiting friends or family, business travel such as conferences, training and meetings, transit through Auckland International Airport, and arriving as a cruise passenger.
What the NZeTA does not permit is taking up paid employment, enrolling in long-term study, or travelling primarily to receive medical treatment — those activities require the relevant New Zealand work, student or medical visa. The authority is designed for stays of up to 90 days per visit (6 months for UK citizens), with a maximum of 6 months in any 12-month period. If your trip fits within these limits and one of the permitted purposes, the NZeTA is the right, fast and affordable option. When you are ready, apply online; for longer or different stays, a visitor or other visa may be needed.
